Favorite Thing Friday

My favorite thing this week is quite simple. This beautiful thing winged its way into my life today:

I'm too lazy to take my own picture. Plus it's dark here and I've had a beer so I'm slightly drunk. Yes, a beer. One beer. But it was a good beer.
Anyhoo, now I can start responding to comments again, and not seem like some ignorey-head. I call dibs on that term. I can so see how it's pronounced in my head. How one can see a pronunciation, I've no idea. Super powers?
Oh, also, it's my dad's birthday. He's like 1,001 or something.

Oh hey, not to toot my own horn too much, but I've got a cool Second Blogaversary Giveaway going now. Check it out!

The Best Strawberries EVER

Want to know how to get the best strawberries ever?

Pick them yourself!
Today, myself and the small children when to a local farm, paid for our containers, then spent a very happy hour or so picking and (mainly) eating strawberries right off the vine.

I made the mistake of telling them they could eat as many as they wanted. I think more ended up in their bellies than in the pints.
We got some absolute monsters:

And we got some exhausting (yay!) work in:

And the morning ends super well if the farm has a playground:

YUM!

Favorite Thing Friday

It's pretty much most of the same - beaching, knitting, walking. The weather is so nice here! Plus, we have new neighbors who aren't loud obnoxious collge kids who wake me up at two in the morning, who I then am forced to call the police on an hour later for noise control. (Which then makes me feel like a little old crotchety lady, which does not improve my opinion of said college neighbors.) We live on the same road as two (and now one because said nice couple bought one!) vacation homes, where people rent them out for a week or two at crazy prices, and it's all party for them. And the second one is now for sale as well.
Wow, that was a long paragraph. Anyways, I have to get my girl dressed and to school in about ten, so happy day all!
Oh, tried painting yarn for the first time:
Didn't go so well. But that's ok hopefully it'll be better next time!

Favorite Things Friday

Well, I have had so much to be thankful for that I don't know what to be thankful for!

The weather has been so blissfully sweet. My kiddo was accepted into a free preschool program she loves. I have actually been getting work. Some friends are back for the summer. My ex father in law's health is improving. My computer is back upstairs and running. And it goes on.

I am just thankful to be alive!

The Day After Thursday

Lazy days rock. My daughter and I are spending the day watching old movies, knitting, and basically lazing (is that a word) off Thanksgiving. And eating Turkey Terrifics (Thanksgiving feast between two fresh baked pieces of bread). And baking more pies for our "eat the leftovers" get-together, which is really more fun than Thanksgiving.
Some pictures of the holiday:
Those are from the Cold Turkey Plunge. Basically, people jump into the water for 32 seconds (why 32 I don't know) to raise money for the Atheneum.

Christmas is being put up around town. The Tree Lighting Ceremony is tonight, and the Christmas Stroll is next weekend.

Some fun before and after dinner.
And lounging around today.
PS - don't forget my Knitted Ornament Giveaway.

Favorite Thing Friday

My favorite things is the fact that my best friend in the entire world (we call eachother "hetero life-mates", à la Jay and Silent Bob) was offered a full time, year round job as a nurse in the hospital on the island. Which is really hard to get. So yay.

PS - Remember my Knitted Ornaments Giveaway.

Favorite Things Friday

I got an unexpected and very lovely day off today. As a single mother, I am very lucky. My daughter goes with her father every Sunday after church for several hours, and then one weekend a month. But today it was raining cats and dogs, and since my ex is a landscaper, he couldn’t work. Bummer for him – day off for me!
I cleaned the house, I worked on my website, I knitted. (I did not, however, actually finish anything.) Then at about two o’clock, I realized I hadn’t eaten, so I made myself a virgin Peña Colada – virgin mainly because I don’t know what kind of alcohol goes into it. And right this very second, I am sipping it.
All that, altogether, is my Favorite Thing Friday. (Well it’s still Thursday here, but hey, close enough.)

October Whoopie Pies

My Favorite Thing Friday is October. Three reasons - Fall is my favorite season, Halloween is my favorite holiday, and my birthday is this month.
I spent the day making mini pumpkin whoopie pies, to celebrate October. Literally, the day. Because I am American, I naturally like things far bigger than they're supposed to be, so the first two batches were gigantic...but looked horrible. So, actually following the recipe this time, I made another two batches.
The first batch, with the big ol' scooper.
Some of the second batch, waiting to go into the oven...
...and out of the oven.
All those mini whoopie halves.

A plate of Whoopie Pies!

It's a funny thing - when things are actually made the size they're supposed to be, the recipe doesn't really have to be doubled. So with all that extra batter - mini pumpkin cupcakes!
Aaaand lotsa time spent knitting while waiting for the timer go off. (It's a World of Warcraft stocking a friend asked me to make, by the way.)

And one teeny tiny panda bear ornament, with two different length arms. Poor thing. She'll be fixed tomorrow.
