This Life is a Test.

"This life has been a test. If this had been an actual life, you would have received instructions on where to go and what to do."

Yesterday was a nostalgia filled day if ever there was one. Looking to re-watch Weeds season five, I connected to Netflix. Low and behold, on my page of suggestions, first and foremost, was My So-Called Life, the complete series (all of the one season). Of course, I had to spend the entire day (well, my daughter's nap time and my few free hours in the evening) watching it.
Okay, so the main character is a tad more morose and, well, boring than I remember. I swear, high school wasn't nearly so life or death for me. (Note the sarcasm.)

What really struck me about this show is the amazing quotes sprinkled throughout. I don't remember having such epic moments of insight when I was 15. I was probably too busy trying to slouch unnoticed through the halls to think of any. And, because I feel the need to do something, I am going to share some of these quote with the handful of people that may read this blog. Here goes nothing:

- "What's amazing is when you can feel your life going somewhere. Like, your life just figured out how to get good. Like, that second."
- "If only there were a button somewhere that I could push. To force me to stop talking."
- "My parents keep asking how school was. It's like saying, 'How was that drive-by shooting?' You don't care how it *was*, you're lucky to get out alive."
- "Sometimes I think if my mother wasn't so good at pretending to be happy she might be better at actually being happy."
- "Sometimes someone says something really small and it just fits into this empty place in your heart."
- "It's like you think you are safe or something cause you can just walk away anytime, cause you don't need her - you don't need anyone. But the thing you didn't realize is, you're wrong."
- "It's like you have created your own prison and now you have to exist in it."

I severely dislike how suddenly the series ends. It's like everyone just got tired of making it. And the fact that the last episode shows the heroine getting into the car with the guy who is so bad for her, (though one whose picture I could drool over for the next decade) while the guy who is perfect for her, and loves her so unconditionally, watches. And she just stares at him while she's driven away into the sunset.
